Going Through Changes

Well hello, there...

Welcome to my little corner of the internet! My name is Cassie and I'm here to document my "new" way of life and the tips, tricks, and challenges that I experience along the way.

A couple of weeks ago, I made a pretty huge life change. I made the decision to leave an extremely stressful (but well-paying) job that was completely eating up my life, and transitioned to a part-time role in a similar but less-demanding industry. It was a difficult but necessary decision in order to improve my mental and physical health, and to focus on all of the things that I've been missing out on. You know - the important things in life, like time with my family, taking care of our home, and actually having some "me time."

That being said, with this change comes a pretty steep decline in our family's income.

My husband, T., and I have been together for nearly twelve years now, and are still very much in love. He is my best friend and biggest supporter. He is the one who encouraged me to make the leap to transition in my career, and is fully confident that we will figure out any obstacles that may come into our way. Where I worry, he is always calm. We have an amazing little four-year-old boy, T.J., who I have been dying to spend more time with. I want nothing more than for him to remember me as a happy and loving mom, and I am taking the steps to make sure I can be that person for him.

I have always been a "fancy" girl. I had a subscription to Vogue magazine from elementary school through college, and considered Sex and the City to be a religion growing up. Dita von Teese is my ultimate style icon, and I have more than a few pairs of designer shoes. To say I've spent a small fortune at Sephora in my lifetime would be a gross understatement. I can tell you firsthand that money can't buy happiness, but it can sure buy a lot of cool stuff.

So how does a girl like me go from being able to buy whatever I want, whenever I want, to going on a budget in order to prioritize my family and health?

That's what we're here to find out!

I've always valued the more "traditional" aspects of life, and find frugality fascinating, so I am prepared to become an experiment in the name of living a fancy yet frugal life. I am determined to find the beauty in living on less, and can't wait to explore how far a minimal budget can be stretched while striving to elevate everyday life.

I hope that you will join me on my journey to find My Frugal Fancy.

Love,

Cassie

Happy Canada Day, Eh!

This was an amazing Canada Day for our family because we. didn't. go. anywhere. No loud fireworks in a mosquito-laden field... No family get-togethers with third cousin so-and-so... Just a beautiful day spent in the pool eating shrimp cocktail, Juicy Jumbos and corn on the cob. Our little dude is slowly learning to swim (peep that $6.00 floatation vest from Canadian Tire) and loving every second of it. This Canada Day hit a little differently. It's not lost on me that we are very, very lucky to live in this beautiful country and that there are some threats from the leader South of us that we have never dealt with before. I am infinitely grateful that we are able to live in this country and can celebrate as we see fit. Now back to that shrimp cocktail... I picked up a 1.5lb bag of shrimp at Walmart for about $8.00 and wanted to throw something together for a light lunch. I am not really one for measuring, but here are my "recipes" for the shrimp and cocktail sauce (at ...

Our Frugal Summer Vacation

We just got back from a week away to visit family and to attend a family reunion. My husband, T., found a great Air BnB cottage for about $130/night a few months ago and let me tell you, it was a life changer from being in a hotel room. There was lots of room for our son to play and it was a short walk to the lake - you can save so much money by doing free activities. They even had a chicken coop with fresh eggs and a veggie garden that we could use, helping us to save on grocery costs. Staying in a cottage with a full kitchen is an amazing way to make sure that you are eating fresh and healthy homemade food, and saves a ton of cash that you would be spending on three restaurant meals a day. We spent $98 on groceries for the entire week, and focused on quick meals and things that could be grilled quickly so that we could get back to doing the fun stuff. We found a few free activities to do in town as well, including a lit train bridge walking tour, and lots of family visits. I Goo...
